Harrogate Stone Doff Cleaning Project

We recently undertook a project to clean the experior of a building located in the beautiful Yorkshire town of Harrogate.

The cleaning included some ornate entrance pillars and the paths around the property which had become etched with lichen and algae over the decades, leading to a visually unappealing entrance and slippy surfaces around the property.

As you will see the difference is huge once this process is completed and the risk of slipping on wet days due to the lichen and algae no longer exists.

What Is Doff Cleaning?

Doff cleaning is a specialist, chemical-free system that uses high-temperature steam delivered at low pressure to clean surfaces, particularly historical and delicate buildings. The superheated steam, reaching up to 150°C, effectively kills and removes organic growths like moss and algae, carbon staining, and grime without causing damage or erosion to the underlying material. This method is environmentally friendly, preserves the breathable qualities of historic surfaces, and is approved by conservation bodies for use on listed buildings and monuments.
