Doncaster Dome Full Internal Redecoration

Leisure Facility Redecoration

Following the appointment of a replacement principal contractor by the Alliance Leisure Framework after the collapse of ISG Plc, Swirlforce was awarded this project, which was successfully completed in May 2026.

Our scope of works included comprehensive internal redecoration throughout the leisure facility, focusing primarily on the lagoon areas and back-of-house spaces. One of the standout features of the project was the careful painting of the distinctive curved candy stripe lines surrounding the central atrium. These decorative elements were meticulously colour matched to the external blockwork using Zinsser AllCoat, creating a seamless visual connection between the interior and exterior of the building while delivering a durable, high-performance finish suitable for a busy public environment.

In addition to the decorative finishes, our team applied specialist protective coatings to both new and existing shot-blasted structural steel, helping to enhance long-term durability and corrosion resistance. The project required careful planning and coordination to minimise disruption within this operational leisure facility, ensuring all works were completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

This project demonstrates Swirlforce’s expertise in commercial painting and decorating, specialist protective coatings, and the delivery of high-quality refurbishment works within complex leisure and public sector environments.

A £14 Million Redevelopment Of An Icon

The project formed part of the £14 million redevelopment of the iconic Doncaster Dome, a major investment designed to transform one of South Yorkshire’s most recognisable leisure destinations. The refurbishment focused on modernising the popular Lagoons pool complex, enhancing the visitor experience while carefully preserving the distinctive character of this Grade II listed building, recognised as one of the youngest listed buildings in the UK.

Working within a landmark public leisure facility required meticulous planning, close coordination with the principal contractor and strict adherence to programme deadlines. Swirlforce was proud to contribute to the wider redevelopment by delivering specialist painting, decorating and protective coating works that complemented the high-quality refurbishment, ensuring the upgraded spaces provide a durable, attractive finish for many years to come.
